Very proud of Canada

Learned from a young age

Every Canadian knows it by heart: of all the countries in the world, there is only one that is the best and that is Canada. The obviousness of this opinion sometimes seems a bit stupid to people from other countries.

It is no wonder that Canadians feel this way about their own country. It is literally drilled into them at almost all occasions. At school, at home, by the government.

Anyone in Canada who even dares to doubt that Canada is not the best country in the world is immediately looked at strangely.

The fact that so many immigrants come to Canada is a constant confirmation that it must be the best country on earth. Otherwise they wouldn't have come, right? And there are many more who would like to move to Canada too. What more proof do you need?

Pride, patriotism, chauvinism, all sorts of things

The national anthem is sung every day at school. At many sports matches too. At other gatherings perhaps too.

The Canadian flag is seen almost everywhere. Expressions that Canada is the best country on earth can be found in the most unlikely places. To question this is not appreciated.

People like to quote studies and surveys that rank the liveability and attractiveness of various countries and cities. Do you know who the winner is and that every time?

I hope you don't even think about criticizing Canada. You won't make any friends that way.

Even when you broach things that are done differently elsewhere, you immediately encounter grumbling resistance. How dare you!

Anyone who is not convinced that everything is done better in Canada than anywhere else should keep their mouth shut. Canada has nothing to learn from other countries because as it is now, it can't really be better.

A little self-satisfied perhaps? Can't anything be better?

From the Promised Land

Perhaps it would be fun to read our main article about "The Promised Land" again. Because yes, Canada is indeed a great country.

But that there are things that could be better, no one should be ashamed of that? You don't have to be offended by that, do you?

Really, what happens in other countries is not always completely wrong. There, one could even, every now and then, learn something from it.
